New Additions To The Family

Please welcome Hermie and Xavi, our new pet hermit crabs!

Xavi on the left and a blurry Hermie on the right

Close-up on Hermie. He's got his head down, hiding his feelers.

This is their little habitat! That funny-looking brown ball of fur is a sea sponge; used to provide humidity. In the far corner is a little ramp.. which they have yet to use.

Josh and I only got them yesterday so they're still quite shy, especially Xavi.
Hopefully they'll warm up to us!
Josh named his after a Barcelona player and I just named mine Hermie cause well... I couldn't come up with any awesome crab names. I tried Zoro, Marco and Pierre but in the end 'Hermie' just rolls off my tongue naturally.

They're actually quite cute with their different personalities; Xavi quite shy and hides a lot in his shell. Whenever you come close, he fully retracts into his shell to hide for ages. When he's out though, he enjoys digging near the water bowls and hang around the salt water bath dish.

Hermie, on the other hand, is more adventurous. He's a curious little critter and enjoys roaming around the tank from one corner to the other. Hermie doesn't usually retract himself all the way into his shell when he's startled. He hides his eyes but leaves all his legs out; a sign of bravery or stupidity? He thinks if he can't see us, we shouldn't be able to see him?

Anyho, I hope everyone's had a good Christmas! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at Emerald, with our friends having a BBQ and a round of golf. Nothing like good food and good company.

We'll most likely spend New Year's eve at a friend's house in a similar manner.
Have a good new year everyone!

Good old christmas cheer

I came home yesterday to find this in my mail:

A Christmas card from my sponsored child in Mongolia! X3
He's still young so he just tries to fill in the empty space with drawings :D

Certainly melts my cold heart.

Anyho, my Christmas lunch at work went well. We stuffed ourselves silly and exchanged our Kris Kringle gifts!

I know who my secret santa is! (She couldn't stop looking at me when I got my present and was happy when I liked it) It's really pretty *____*

Now I pity the person who got me. I should have left a note saying "I'm so sorryyyyyy.... T_____T ... xoxox your secret santa"

*sulk* Hopefully I'll get someone easier next year

I also got a pressie from my dear colleague Karen!

Thanks a lot Kaz!!! Since you don't read my blog, or actually you probably don't know what a 'blog' is for that matter, I guess it's safe for me to say that me loves you!

Have a good Christmas everyone!! ♥ ♥ ♥

Yay for gift vouchers! ♥ Boo to Kris Kringles! >=(

Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas kids!!!

Ah! The joyous season of Christmas draws near!

Much fun can be found in fighting off mobs of stressed people and rummaging through stores endlessly for Christmas gifts.

I only enjoy shopping for people I love (myself in particular), which is why I detest Kris Kringles!
I understand it's just a bit of fun to be someone else's secret santa.

BUT! How am I suppose to find something decent under $15 for a co-worker I don't really know??

Moreover, for this year's Kris Kringle I am to buy a present for a young male colleague! D'oh!

Sure, I suppose I could get chocolates or wine... but that's really boring. I know, I know... I'm just asking for trouble :(

I thought of swiss army knives but they were definitely out of the budget of $15.

I thought of getting a nice fluid lighter case too but I don't think he wants people to know he smokes? (I found out by accident btw)

Anyho, after much fretting and wringing of hands, I think I've gotten a reasonable present for him from Borders, thanks to a very patient boyfriend :D

Better yet, I managed to get of $20 off my purchases due to my VIP Borders card (There's currently an ongoing promotion whereby you'd get a $20 gift voucher if you signed up. The light-bulb above the scrooge in me lit up at the sight of it)

Moreover, I just checked my email and realized I've been given a gift voucher from one of my favourite online boutique shops  Button N Thread.

For Christmas, Button N Thread will post your purchases for free if you reside in Australia, New Zealand or Singapore! Plus you'll get a surprise gift :D

Hope you guys will have an awesome (and safe) Christmas! ;)

Review : Silkymit

Ah... unwanted hair, the bane of countless men* and women.
*Trust me, we have a lot of men coming into our clinic for hair removal.

Now, after being recommended by a friend to try Silkymit, a painless alternative to waxing or shaving, I decided to give it a go.

I didn't expect much but I was disappointed when I opened the pack. Inside, there were three "gloves" which were made out of cardboard.

You basically slip a hand through the openings and glide it in circular movements up and down your limbs.
Very easy to use; much like an exfoliation glove.

So I tried it first on my leg. After a few tries, I ran my hand down and I was disappointed as it has not effectively removed much hair.
I had a few more tries but then found that it was beginning to irritate my skin.

Then it felt like it was burning!
I immediately slapped on some soothing balm which helped calm my skin.

Still, this did not deter me.

Perhaps I was applying too much pressure?
So I tried it on my other leg, which did not irritate as much but like before, did not remove a lot of hair at all.

Then I thought maybe it only works on fine hairs?
I then had a go on my forearm, which gave better results than the legs. There was hardly any irritation at all on my arms so I was pleased. I then put some moisturizer on as my arms felt dry.

However, after a few days, I've noticed that the skin on my arms were rough and scaly. I assume that through the exfoliation, I had broken my skin.

Now I'm not one with sensitive skin so I was a bit surprised at how my skin reacted.

Before and After Photos of Arm

My friends, I'm sure you're dying to know:

Does Silkymit work?
Yes and no.
It did remove hair, yes. I personally find that it's not effective on newly grown hairs but works alright for fine, wispy hairs. As you can see from the photo above, it did remove most of the fine hairs on my arms. On my legs, I could still feel stubble after using Silkymit. Mmm... sexy.

How long does it take for the removed hairs to grow back?
Almost immediately. It's very much like shaving an area.

Will you recommend Silkymit?
No. My friend raved about it but personally, it doesn't do it for me. Not worth the risk of breaking my skin and the possible burning irritations.
Moreover, the hair grows right back.
I would rather shave.

Sexy :D

Gorgeous Kate Hill Parisian Necklace

Hello my lovelies!

I have returned from Perth and now suffering from the time difference. MEH.
Fortunately, I am able to get today off but I basically wasted it lazing around and doing some house chores.
Anyho, since my return, I have been shopping hard! :D

I scored a bargain on this really pretty necklace from Kate Hill, the 'Paric Necklace'.

I don't usually like gold-coloured accessories but this was a rather bright gold so it didn't look too old-fashioned.

There are a few charms: the Effiel Tower, a ring, a coin, a four-leaf clover, a lace bow and an opaque square white bead.

Look at how shiny it is! *O*

It was retailed at A$22.99 but I bought it on sale for only A$9.99 (because I'm a real cheapo, I can't really justify spending A$23 on a necklace for myself)

This photo shows the most true colour of this piece.

You can get your own here for A$9.99 too ;)

Polaroid photo magnets

I'm so happy I bought this! It's something I've wanted for a long time now!
Got this from Sportsgirl for $12.95

It comes with a small whiteboard marker so you can write on your polaroids.
He doesn't like this picture because he looks a bit funny in it. But I look good so... tough luck dude!

Aihh... I'm exhausted!
I've worked two Saturdays in a row now and tomorrow morning, I'm leaving for yet another business trip to Pert. I'll be there for 5 days, slaving away. Woo hoo.
I've been working overtime so often the past two weeks it's not funny.
I'm returning to Melbourne on Thursday but need to come in on Friday to work. MEH.
It's days like these that I feel like I'm being overstretched. Not easy being too needed!

Oh well. Let's see if I crash and burn!

Art on the Wacom Bamboo Tablet

Finally! I've managed to fight the urge to just zone out in front of my laptop and surf endlessly, and drawn something rather decent.

This time, I decided to draw on my tablet.

Now Josh bought me Wacom's Bamboo Fun Tablet more than a year ago but to be honest, I've never really used it very much because I found it difficult to use. Don't get me wrong, it is a fantastic little device; the pen is comfortable to use and has an amazing pressure sensitivity. Definitely better than using a mouse!
The only problem is that I much rather to use Adobe Photoshop than the software (Corel Painter Essentials) it comes with, to draw.
While I am able to use the tablet to draw in Adobe Photoshop, I found it rather unsatisfying as it did not have the many awesome brushes found available in the Corel Painter Essentials.

I am aware that I can download the brushes but I am but a total n00b when it comes to this. I don't even know the types of brushes, let alone the names! I am strictly a sketch artist. I can't even colour right.

Thus, I am left with no choice but to learn a new software.

At the moment, I'm still learning  :)

First, a quick sketch and colouring

      Additional colouring and blending

      Further shading and blending

It's still incomplete. Hopefully I'll be able to play with other types of brushes to see if I can bring her features out. I'm not good with how lighting reflects on people so we'll see how it goes.

So far, so good. I'm really enjoying the tablet, much to Josh's relief! :D
Too bad I didn't start sooner!

Ice cream cake nomness!

So! We finally celebrated Josh's birthday! :D

It wasn't anything big and exciting, unfortunately. We just had a nice dinner and a Baskin Robbin's ice cream cake!

Unfortunately, it melted in the fridge while we were out having dinner!! I placed it in the freezer but was afraid it was going to be too hard by the time we took it out -_- stupid, I know...

Gooey goodness! Fortunately, it still tasted great!

Thoroughly enjoying this ice cream cake!

Momentarily distracted by soccer on TV

Happy belated birthday Joshie! :)
I know you had a good time ;)

Certified phlebotomist!

I is a certified phlebotomist! *prances*

Together with a couple of my colleagues, we attended this 2-day venepuncture crash course over last weekend.
Yes, the weekend. From 9am to 4.30pm! Whole weekend gone T.T
Moreover, it was Joshua's birthday that Sunday!

Cute candid picture of him!

How come there are so many October babies? Mr. Seng Keng, uni mate, ex-housemate, my brother, father, uncle, and Joshua! @_@

Anyho, as of today, I've taken blood from 7 people! :D

It's hard to believe that two years ago, I'd feel queasy at the sight of blood. I suppose after assisting a cosmetic surgeon with a facelift, blood is nothing.

Speaking of facelifts, we'll be doing a couple more in two weeks' time. Yay?

We have a new staff member too who I have been training. She's very nice and almost too kind.
I'm just only worried that she won't be able to say 'no' to things.

The next weeks will be extremely busy at work as our cosmetic surgeon will be performing a number of procedures (will have to work on Saturday T.T) then Dr. Ong is back (it's always chaotic and busy when he returns), and we'll go to Perth for a week to work.

It'll be fun fun fun!!

And I return! The world rejoices!

After spending nearly a week in beautiful sunny Perth, it was almost saddening to return to the miserable weather of Melbourne. Fortunately, the weather is starting to warm up. It's actually gorgeous and warm outside with a temperature of 24 degrees. WOOTS!

I didn't manage to explore much of Perth as it was a business trip; I was pretty much just slaving away inside a building instead of enjoying the glorious weather outside. We did manage to squeeze in a quick visit to South Perth for a magnificent view of its city's skyline.

Anyho, I apologize for the lack of updates. I have been away and it's been absolute chaos at work the week prior to this. Perhaps for the first time since I started my job, I was swamped with feelings of uneasiness. I had actually dreaded to go to work at one point.

Let's just say my eyes have been opened and I can see with much clarity now to what has been happening all along. No doubt, I still enjoy my job and its challenges. I still intend to stay for a little longer, but if I wish to do so, I must tread lightly as I have learnt that being headstrong and even standing up for myself can cause a lot of trouble for others. Fortunately, I have found such good friends in some of my colleagues who will make my job so much easier and enjoyable :)

Now, enough ranting! Let me show you some pictures of things I've purchased lately!

I got this cute summery canvas bag from Dotti almost two months ago! The massive button caught my eye and captured my heart ♥

 Cute as a button! ♥

   Purchased summer wedges ;)

Couldn't resist this tartan patterned shoes, so ideal for work! ♥

I purchased this book a week ago and finished it within three days.
It's a crime thriller by Natsuo Kirino. It's such a thrilling book, I couldn't put it down!

Although I was a little disappointed with the ending, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I must admit, even though I've helped out in surgeries, I felt quite sick reading certain passages in the book.
I really should start picking up reading again.

I waste so many hours in front of a laptop; shopping online, facebook-ing, reading blogs and what not.

Now I'm obssessed with playing this Nine-letter-word game online:
You'd need to form as many words as possible from 9 given letters, which must include at least one particular letter.
Well... at least I'm exercising my brain. *shrug

 //  ♥

PS: Thanks for the concern guys. I know my angry entry the other day caused some raised eyebrows, but I really want to get it off my chest. It's only money that I have to give up, but it's hard-earned money, of which shouldn't even come out of my savings account, just because of a mistake made by others. SIGH.
Oh well, what do you do? Live and let live I suppose.

Mornington Peninsula Hot Springs Weekend

Finally! The long-awaited photos from our trip to the Hot Springs! :D

Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to take any photos while we were in the Hot Springs as we had to respect the privacy of the other bathers. It was SOOOOO good though!

We went for the Twilight bath and it was absolutely heavenly! I would really recommend you to go when you are in dire need of some TLC. It's only a little more than an hour's drive away and costs $20 per person (Twilight bathing hours 7pm- 10pm). I only regret not knowing about this earlier!

Anyho, there are some photos of us having a good time! :)

At a beach in Rye

I am such an awesome photographer! MUAHAHAHA!

Our awesome accommodation; The Rye Tree House!

Cape Schanck Light House

As part of our tour, we were given the chance to go up the light house... much to my delight.
Here is a photo of me, clinging onto the rail as I struggled with the steep steps and my fear of heights.

You can't really tell but I was quite terrified.

Enchanted Hedge Maze!

In the middle we have Grumpy Papa bear
On the right, the mischievous Mama bear
On the left, the way-too-cute baby panda bear! ♥

It was really good fun! Thanks for making the trip memorable guys! :D
